Seal of the Office of the Inspector General
OIG’s seal features the image of an eagle—ever vigilant looking right denoting intense focus while rising with the foremost OIG traits of being independent and objective. The two bronze rings and two gold pips symbolize the strength of DIA and OIG, both separate, and strong on their own, and representing our ability to remain autonomous and transparent in our actions. The blue field of the seal symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, and truth. The flag represents patriotism to our great nation, steeped in the rule of law. The “Committed to Excellence” on the blue scroll with a white backing symbolizes our promise to produce products that compel action and significantly advances the Defense intelligence Agency’s mission.
Seal of the Defense Intelligence Agency
The initial letters of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) also comprise the Greek word “dia,” which means divided into two parts.
In this instance, the flaming torch and its gold color represent knowledge, i.e., intelligence, “lighting” the way of the “known” light blue-green world against the darkness or unknown symbolized by the dark background —“the area of the truth” still sought by the worldwide mission of the Agency.
The two red atomic ellipses symbolize the scientific and technical aspects of intelligence today and of the future. The 13 stars and the wreath are adopted from the Department of Defense (DoD) seal and identifies the Agency as a DoD organization.
Use of the Defense Intelligence Agency Seal
